The funny thing is that I always thought chinoiserie decor originated in Asia. However, I was so wrong!

The beautiful Asain art was no exception and the Europeans began incorporating it specifically into designs for the home. Most commonly, it was added to white porcelain. The European artistic style also found its way onto canvases, fabrics, and furniture.

I mix my blue transferware, blue reproduction transferware, chinoiserie, and reproduction chinoiserie pieces all the time. Transferware originated in the mid-1700s as a way to print onto earthenware or ironstone much more inexpensively than hand-painting.
