A few more tips to help you out…

What are some common Thanksgiving decorations?

As you can see from this post, there are so many different ways that you can decorate for Thanksgiving.  However, some commonalities in all of these Thanksgiving decor ideas stand out.  For example, dried or natural grasses can be great to accompany fresh, fall-colored flowers.

However, you can also use winter greenery, such as this realistic Norfolk pine garland.  It also comes in an extra long, 180″ length that is perfect for really long tables, mantels, stair railings, or around windows and doorways.  I almost always use it on my Thanksgiving tables.  I especially love to pair it with this real touch eucalyptus garland.

In addition to greenery and flowers, pumpkins and dried gourds are always great options for table centerpieces.  Mixing in some brass candlesticks adds an elegant look and you can transition those right into your Christmas decor after Thanksgiving too!

I use these battery-operated taper candles.  I love that they are on a timer and they add a cozy glow to any room.  For Thanksgiving Day, you can safely enjoy the cozy candlelight all day too!

How do I make my house cozy for Thanksgiving?

Autumn + Thanksgiving = Cozy!  Right?!  There is something so wonderful about enjoying a Thanksgiving feast and then settling in to watch a football game, Hallmark Christmas movie, or playing family games that just makes the day so perfect.

Our homes can set the stage or environment for all those wonderful, cozy feelings for our family and friends.  Candles are my favorite way to add a cozy glow and feeling in our home.  I like to use the battery-operated taper candles, like I mentioned for the table.  However, I also use them on my mantel and sofa table too!

I love this set of gold/amber glass pillar candles, also battery-operated and on a timer too.  They look so realistic and definitely add a cozy glow.  However, I must warn you…you’ll want two sets at least!  They are just so pretty!

How should I decorate my house for Thanksgiving?

Even though I always first say that your home should be decorated with whatever feels good to you and to your own family, there are some general decor rules of thumb that I think go hand-in-hand with Thanksgiving decor ideas!

Here are just a few:

  • Touches of warm, fall colors mixed in your decor
  • Mix of warm metal tones like brass and copper
  • Worn and weathered wood accents
  • Incorporate an element of taxidermy, even as simple as inexpensive pheasant feathers
  • Cozy textures, like throw blankets and comfy pillows
  • Lots of candles
  • Winter greenery (think “Over the River and Through the Woods”)
  • Autumn scents, like a simmer pot or my favorite fall candle from Anthropologie
  • Consider the sounds, too, like the nostalgia of the Macy’s Day parade or a football game
  • Make a playlist of soft instrumental music for dinner time

Now you are ready to get your own home ready for Thanksgiving, too!
