Best 25 Favorite Home Organization Ideas for 2025
Sometimes the key to the best home organization ideas are finding the right home storage solutions that fit each part of your own home. Â I am sharing 25 of my favorite practical solutions for creating a tidy home as well home organization ideas that I have found to be highly effective! Â I hope some of these organizing tips can help you also find the best options for your storage space and home organization!
I am going to start right off by saying that I am not a professional organizer and while I am a reasonably organized person, I do not have the tidiest home of anyone I know. Â I definitely do not have all of the most beautifully organized closets with the latest organizing systems. Â Why am I bothering with this post then? Â Well, years of experience as a wife, mom, and teacher have given me some great home organization ideas.
At the same time, I also understand what it means to have limited time and a small budget for the right home storage solutions to match my home organization ideas! Â While I’d love to walk into The Container Store and purchase all of the matching organizers and storage systems for our entire home, that just isn’t my reality!
So, today, I thought I’d share some of my favorite home organization ideas, ranging from organizing tips that I find helpful to budget-friendly, practical solutions that I love using in various rooms of our home.
By the end of the post, my goal is that you have at least one creative idea that you can implement into even a small space in your home, such as a drawer or cabinet, that will help you have better function in your everyday living.

Best 25 Favorite Home Organization Ideas for 2025

#1 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Start small.
I know, I know. Â You may be impatient like me and just want to snap your fingers and have all of the drawers and cabinets perfectly tidy with closets that display beautifully matched hangars and stylish closet organizer accessories lined up on open shelving. Â Hey, we can dream, right?!
What I have learned is that the process is a slow one and to be done well, takes time. Â That is okay, normal and expected even!
I’ll also admit that I have a hard time getting started. Â Organizing our entire house just feels like a daunting task! Â If you put off organizing and cleaning out spaces in your home too, you are not alone! Â However, it always feels so good to make progress, even if it is a little at a time.
There are many decluttering and home organization systems out there that can help you organize your organizing! Â For me, it really works best to just do a little at a time when I can.
How do I start organizing at home?
My first tip for home organization ideas is to start small! Â
I often find that starting with one small area, like my nightstand or bathroom drawers feels so satisfying and often motivates me to keep going. Â Before I know it, I can have a lot of drawers and cabinets decluttered, reorganized, and tidy in a short amount of time!
Pro Tip: Pick one room of your home to focus on for a set amount of time. Â It could be for the day or even spread out over a week if you need to (I do both!)
#2 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Clear your countertops and tables.
Before I start any reorganizing in any space, I take time to clear the countertops, tables, and any other spot where stuff may accumulate. Â I won’t even say junk, because often it isn’t junk. Â It may be things you actually use and they either haven’t gotten put away OR you don’t have a good place to put them.
There is nothing more frustrating than organizing a cabinet, thinking you’ve got a perfect home for everything, and then looking over to see a dish that got left sitting on the counter when the kids emptied the dishwasher!
So that you can properly declutter and find the best way to organize any space, you first need to have everything gathered that needs to be organized in that space.

#3 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Don’t overthink.
What is the fastest way to organize a cluttered house?
Honestly, I think the fastest way to organize a cluttered house is to just start! Â We are mostly going to look at specific organizing tools with home organization ideas today, but since I know that I just want the job to be over, I think it’s safe to assume that there are at least a few of you out there that want to just get the job done as quickly as possible! Â Am I right?!
Once you’ve gathered everything that needs to be organized in a particular space, it’s time declutter and organize.
One thing that I try to do is to not overthink during the decluttering process. Â If I begin overthinking, I can end up justifying keeping things that I really don’t need (or even want that much!) If it’s not of sentimental value and you don’t use it, it’s time for it to go!
Then, you can go through the process of organizing only the items that you actually want to keep in your home. Â It is always easier to organize less stuff and while I’m not a minimalist, I’ve learned that a thorough decluttering beforehand makes any home organization ideas easier!
#4 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Don’t have a junk drawer.
A junk drawer just invites junk. Â Quite literally. Â Instead, have designated themes for each drawer where like things are kept together.
For example, we do not have a proper home office. Â Instead, we have a kitchen drawer and a pull out in one of the kitchen cabinets below that drawer. Â That space houses the office supplies and printer so the whole family has easy access.
I use bamboo organizers in all of my kitchen drawers for durable storage. Â While the bamboo organizers can cost a little more, I’ve slowly added them over time until have have them for all of my kitchen now. Â I love the cohesive look, even though no one is going through my kitchen checking to see if my organizers match or not!
Pro Tip: Â Take your time and invest in quality home organization ideas and items that you actually love.
For our office drawer, I particularly love THIS set of bamboo organizers. The different sizes allow for organizing small items as well as everyday items, such as pencils and pens.
Pro Tip: Â The typical home only needs so many paper clips or any number of similar small items. Â Clear the excess!Â
If I have more paper clips than what fits in the designated organizer, I will likely toss them. Â I don’t want to be wasteful. Â At the same time, I do not want to take up the precious square footage of my home with unimportant stuff that we don’t need or want!

#5 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Take advantage of vertical space.
One of the things I have been working on in our home is taking better advantage of vertical space.  While this could be adding open shelves in a kitchen or bookshelves in a bedroom, it could also be on a much smaller scale.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve slowly added more of THESE acrylic drawers in the bathroom.  They are perfect to go in the cabinet under the bathroom sink and have proved very useful, especially in my girls’ bathroom!
I have also added acrylic drawers (THIS style) in my refrigerator.  They are wonderful for keeping smaller snacks and food items organized, like applesauce, yogurt pouches, and cheese sticks!
In both open spaces, closets, and inside cabinets, consider how you might utilize the vertical space to give you more useful storage!

#6 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Use space-saving solutions in closets.
I love our home so much but no home is perfect (unless maybe you build it and get everything just right and never have your needs change!) Â One of the negatives of an older home are the small closets. Â Honestly, we’ve made it work pretty well over the years but last year, I did start seeking out a home organization idea for some space-saving solutions.
Here are three of my very favorites:
- These hangar connectors are perfect for my dresses and allow me to use more of the vertical space in the closet.  I LOVE pretty dresses and wear them a lot, so it is really wonderful to have better space and options to hang them without them getting smashed!
- This pants hangar works perfectly for my son’s pants.  It is easy for him to hang them up and saves a ton of space in his closet!
- This belt hangar is much easier for him than trying to organize his belts in a drawer.  It also works as a divider between his school uniforms and other shorts/pants.

#7 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Remove items from original packaging.
You know those magazine-worthy pantries and closets? Â One thing that they basically all have in common is that you don’t see any distracting packaging.
You can quickly and easily level up the aesthetic of your home organization ideas by removing the original packaging and both storing and organizing items in pretty containers. Â These containers don’t have to be expensive or fancy. Â Even simple clear acrylic or plastic containers with pretty labels make a huge difference.
Here are a few favorites for home organization ideas that we use in our home:
- THESE containers for all of the baking supplies in our pantry
- Zipper pouches for games and game pieces in the linen closet (this also saves a lot of space and makes the games easier to access)
- Pretty glass bottles for oils that double as kitchen decor and free up pantry space

#8 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Use over the door storage solutions for extra space.
With our small closets, utilizing over the door storage solutions has been a game changer!  We have over the door shoe organizers for all of our clothing closets and those help us save a lot of space.
Here are a few shoe storage solutions that we use and like:
- This over the door shoe rack
- These hanging organizers for hats and handbags
- This organizer has different sizes of pockets, which works great for larger tennis shoes.
In addition to shoes, we also use an over the door organizer in the linen closet.  THIS can work great for keeping extra sheets and pillow cases organized if you are short on closet space too!
We aren’t currently using THIS organizer for the water bottles and Stanley cups that we have amassed, but it is a GREAT organizer!  I ended up going with THIS bamboo organizer for the Stanley cups as the over the door organizer didn’t work on our kitchen cabinets since they go to the ceiling.
#9 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Include decorative storage
Especially if you have small spaces or a lack of closed storage options, decorative storage can make a huge difference in your home organization ideas while also making beautiful home decor.
I like using THESE pretty rattan boxes on the side table shelf to keep remotes and card games organized.
THESE wire baskets are easy to hang on the wall without screws and they are perfect for keeping wall game pieces and mini basketballs organized in the game room.
You can find a lot of other pretty storage basket ideas HERE on my storefront.Â
Also, think outside the box…literally…and use pretty boxes for easy organization that also looks beautiful.  Boxes can be stacked on shelves, desks, side tables, or even used as part of a coffee table vignette for storing items in plain sight!

#10 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Maximize space with drawer dividers.
One of the best investments I’ve made in home organization ideas are THESE bamboo, expandable drawer dividers. I have them in the extra long size, which fits the pullouts in my kitchen cabinets perfectly.  We also use the regular size of drawer dividers in kitchen drawers and even a chest of drawers and bathroom drawers too!
The bamboo is so nice because it is easy to wipe clean and it is aesthetically pleasing. Â I’ve been working toward getting all of the organizers in my kitchen to be the same bamboo finish. Â I am almost there and I have to say, even though other people don’t see the organizers behind the closed door of a cabinet, it feels and looks so much nicer to me.
At the same time, it gives a nice flow to the kitchen storage. Â Plus, they are a great way to mix and match different organizers if I rearrange or reorganize a drawer or cabinet.
If you are working on home organization ideas, THESE drawer dividers are a great place to start!  I can almost guarantee you’ll want to keep adding them throughout your home as you can!

#11 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Get smart with the right home storage solutions
Do you remember how popular lazy susan organizers were in kitchens back in the early 2000’s?  While they are still a great option for corner cabinets, I love that the lazy susan idea has expanded to so many different kinds of home organization ideas.
Here are a few favorite lazy susans we are currently using in our home:
- THIS tiered acrylic lazy susan holds hair and cosmetic products in my girls’ bathroom cabinet and is also perfect for small bathrooms!  It holds so much stuff!
- We are loving THIS lazy susan for our Stanley (or Stanley style) water bottles. I love that they aren’t falling over, all of them can be easily accessed, and it just looks cute in the pantry too!
- I recently got THIS acrylic lazy susan for the refrigerator. Just wow!  It is so convenient and keeps smaller things from getting shoved into the back of the refrigerator and forgotten about (which happens way too much with us.  Who wants to be wasting food right now?!  Not me!). I think THIS lazy susan is going to end up being one of my biggest organization tips for kitchens!

#12 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Choose a storage solution style and keep it consistent for the room.
As I mentioned with slowly replacing home organizers in my kitchen to eventually all be the bamboo wood, keeping a consistent look or style for an entire room is an easy way to make your home organization ideas flow together nicely and be more aesthetically pleasing.
This is the main reason I stray away from trendy colors or styles for my home organization ideas and instead, choose functional pieces in basic colors and finishes. Â I couldn’t begin to tell you the number of times that I have moved organizers around within a room or even into a different spot in our home. Â This is really key as I try to frequently assess our family’s storage and organization needs and make our home as functional as possible for every family member!

#13 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Maximize space on shelves with pull out storage solutions.
Another great way to maximize storage in a cabinet or on closet shelves are with THESE pull out bins.  They are super easy to install and I love them for the cleaning supplies on the deep shelves in my small closet for cleaning, laundry, and household supplies.  I think these acrylic pull out bins would also be awesome in a pantry or under a bathroom sink…you know…those places where things go to hide in the dark corners?!  Haha!
I am a big fan of pullouts in a kitchen or bathroom, so whenever you have an option for those kinds of built-in solutions, definitely go for it!

#14 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Tuck baskets under the coffee table.
Let’s chat about some prettier and more fun storage solutions now, shall we?!  As often as you can make pretty storage and organization solutions part of your home, it will make even small rooms feel less cluttered, more intentional, and more calming.
In the family room, for instance, you may want to have extra throw blankets and pillows easily accessible for movie nights or just relaxing in the common space. Â I keep these cozy items in a large, lidded basket. Â However, you could also let pretty throw blankets and pillows double as decor by keeping them in open baskets tucked under the coffee table.
While we don’t have small baby and toddler toys around anymore, baskets under the coffee table was one of the easiest methods I found during those years to control the chaos but still keep the toys easy accessible for the little ones.
#15 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Seasonal decorative pillows and blankets
If you enjoy decorating, you probably can at least understand my pillow problem.  Haha!  To be fair, I have really scaled back my seasonal throw pillows and also get pillow covers whenever possible, which are a lot easier and more compact to store.
We have THESE wonderful organizers that we keep extra blankets, pillows, and even bedding stored in.  They are also great for seasonal clothing, jackets, and coats.
Recently, I was looking for some leather touches to add to our family room.  I came across these leather unstuffed poufs and knew they would be perfect for seasonal throw pillows!  Now, all of my seasonal pillows are snuggly tucked into these leather poufs that double as extra seating and foot rests in our family room!  It feels kinda genius, I have to say!  Haha!

#16 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: What to do with that weird space over the refrigerator?
Even though I had a deep cabinet added over our refrigerator when we remodeled our home, it is still an awkward space because it is so high.  This may not work for everyone, but on the bottom shelf, I keep small appliances that we want to have but do not use often.  Since they are a little larger items, I can still get ahold of them to get them down without a step stool.
Then, on the top shelf, I keep sentimental items, such as some dishes I inherited. Â This is a safe place to store fragile items that are special to us while also utilizing space that we really can’t easily access for everyday use anyway!
If you don’t have a cabinet, I recommend a large basket that looks pretty and can store lightweight items such as extra paper towels or paper goods. Â That is always my first recommendation when people ask me what to put over their refrigerator!
#17 Favorite Home Organization Ideas:Â Silverware and utensil organizers
A friend of mine showed me THESE bamboo flatware organizers a couple of years ago and I am still obsessed with them.  I have three sets of flatware and using THESE organizers allowed me to condense my flatware from varied drawers to one long drawer.  They maximize the drawer space perfectly!
If you have a small kitchen, you NEED these flatware organizers!
For my utensils, I use the expandable bamboo drawer dividers rather than specific drawer organizers.  This allows me, for example, to put all of my tongs in one slot, even though I have varying sizes.  The drawer dividers work super well and with labels from my label maker, make it easier for the kids to get things where they belong when they empty the dishwasher!

#18 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Stackable storage baskets
Stacking pretty baskets is an amazing way to make your storage and organization look pretty too!  We use this idea in my girls’ room with varied sizes of thrifted baskets.  Since I picked them up at different times, they don’t all match.  However, I love the eclectic, vintage vibe and it works well with their decor.
You could use stacked baskets in basically any room where you need additional storage, as long as the baskets aren’t too heavy or difficult to maneuver for whomever needs to access them.
THIS set of scalloped baskets is adorable and would be perfect to add to a stack of thrifted baskets!
#19 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Handy little gadgets like these over-the-shelf mug holders
Often, it’s the small details that can help home organization ideas feel so good!  These over-the-shelf coffee mug holders are inexpensive and literally take no time to install.  However, they make a huge difference in how this kitchen cabinet both functions and looks.
Coffee mugs seem to appear and multiply out of nowhere, right?!  First, I recommend clearing out mugs that you do not need or use.  Then, try some simple solutions, like these over-the-shelf mug racks to help keep your favorite coffee mugs well organized!

#20 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Shower curtain organizer
I have a post about bathroom decor and organization and you can find all of those details, along with my favorite bathroom organizational tools, HERE!
However, I love this shower curtain organizer SO much that I had to go ahead and share it here with you.  Nothing makes a bathroom shower feel cluttered like a bunch of bottles, washes, sponges, and other personal items lining the tub and window sill.  This shower curtain organizer solves all of those problems and works like a charm!
I also love that my kids can keep their items separated so everyone knows whose items belong to whom!
#21 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Control the cords
Cords are one of the most annoying things in home decorating and it seems like we have more than ever with all of the different chargers.  THIS cord clutter control basket works great to neatly coil the cords and let the ends come out for charging or plugging in.  Genius!
#22 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Find double duty options for organization
As I mentioned earlier in the post, our girls share a relatively small bedroom.  We really needed to add some additional storage and organization.  Even though we clean things out often, their clothes and shoes also take up a lot more space than they did when the girls were little!
We added THESE super cute flower shaped ottomans.  The girls figured out the best organization for those, but I believe they have winter shoes in one and handbags in another.
The ottomans are also perfect to simply slide over in front of the full length mirror to do hair or makeup with each other or their friends.
Any time you can find double duty options for function and organization, I think it’s a great win for your home organization ideas!
#23 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Visible storage
I already shared some of my pretty storage boxes with you that also double as decor.  However, THIS set of woven baskets also deserves a spot in my top 25 home organization ideas.  I’ve used them for everything from card games and remotes on the coffee table to office supplies.  The size and stacking option makes them so great for shelf decor while also hiding away essentials!
I think THESE baskets are perfect for office shelves.  Even though we don’t have office shelves, I added a set to my husband’s desktop and I love how they control a bit of the clutter that tends to pile up!

#24 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Drop zone or mudroom organization
Where everyone’s things land when they come home after a day at school or work is super important to keeping a tidy and organized home.  We did a DIY makeover of an underutilized hot water heater closet and turned it into a super functional drop zone with sufficient backpack storage space for our kids.
You can see all of the details along with the materials we used over on THIS blog post!

#25 Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Tidy as you go
No matter what organizers you add to your home, they must be actually used in order to keep a home organized for the long term.  Now, I don’t know about your home, but in our home, things just don’t seem to stay very organized on their own.
I have found that while I do have to have times of cleaning out and reorganizing, it is much easier if I tidy as I go. For example, when I go to get scissors from the office supply drawer in our kitchen, I may take an extra 30 seconds to simply tidy up any loose items, etc.
To me, the key to keeping an organized home is to maintain the organization I’ve done by tidying as I go on a daily basis.

BONUS Favorite Home Organization Ideas: Skylight calendar
One of the best things we have added for our family is our digital Skylight calendar. I can honestly say it feels like it has saved my sanity some days!  Even though it took a little time for us to all get in the habit of checking it each day and committing to try and stay on task, it has made a big difference in helping everyone to understand the expectations for their day.  I realize that not every family has chores, and that is fine.  Everyone does what works best for them!
In our family, we all do chores and share some of the responsibility for keeping our home running smoothly.  The Skylight calendar has made a big difference in me having to continually tell or remind people what to do.  Now, we can all follow our own lists on the calendar.  It is great accountability for our kids and we are all finding it very useful!

If you’ve stuck with me through this post, thank you!  I hope you’ve come across some ideas that can help you with your own home organization while also keeping a beautiful aesthetic for your home.
