If you’ve been a ready for awhile, you know me well enough to know that I love seasonal décor…and yet, I approach it a little differently!  You aren’t likely to find me buying a cart full of décor for spring, or for any season, really.  However, I do love to use neutral Easter decorations to create a festive and beautiful look in our home for the holiday.  I also love adding vintage Easter decorations for charm and character!

Even though I tend to use the same items for many years, styling them a little differently as my tastes evolve, I usually stick with seasonal basics.  Often, Easter décor can be bright, playful, and oh-so-cheerful.  However, I prefer a softer approach to the season when it comes to our Easter home decorations.

Consider reserving the most Easter color for table decor, parties, and events!

Sidenote: This isn’t to say that a kids’ Easter party won’t be full of color…it always is!  I actually love decorating for kids’ parties and our sweet Addy’s 1st birthday was all Peter Cottontail!  She was born on Good Friday and her nursery was decorated in bunnies.  So I have a really soft spot for all the fun color of the kids décor!

I’ll save that for another post, but here is a glimpse of the sweetest birthday party!  It was definitely my favorite that I’ve ever done!

I mean, how cute?!  Right?!

However, back to home décor…if we must.  I could really get stuck on my children’s baby pictures though!

How can I decorate my house for spring?

For our home, I love to stick with neutrals and use vintage items to bring in texture and character to our home.  When it comes to a holiday like Easter, that could sound boring to some, I suppose.  However, I love how a neutral palette allows me to bring in a pop of color in a spring bouquet or pulling out colorful napkins for an Easter tabletop decor.

I think of Easter vignettes in two different ways.  There are more colorful, playful looks that I use for an Easter dinner or party.  At the same time, there are more neutral Easter decorations that I like to keep throughout our home for the spring season.

Neutrals are far from boring.  Actually, if done well, they are warm, inviting, and calming to the eye.  At the same time, I love a good challenge!  So, let’s chat about some neutrals that you can easily use to achieve a festive look for the Easter celebrations with vintage treasures while still maintaining a cozy, warm environment for your home.

How do you decorate for your house for Easter?

Again, this is Easter-style decor that is going to stay in my house for a good portion of the spring season.  Therefore, I am using mostly neutral Easter decorations to keep a cozy and warm style that matches the aesthetic of our home.

Here are a few “must-haves” for me:

1. Real or faux plants
2. Real or faux flowers
3. Neutral colored bunny rabbit accessories
4. Natural materials, such as egg gourds, concrete bunnies, and moss
5. Garden themes with patina, such as aged terra cotta pots
6. Vintage vessels, bowls, trays, vases, pots, planters, and containers
7. Faux eggs in neutral colors
8. Mix of wood tones and white

How do you make your house cozy in the spring?

Using natural materials, mixing wood tones and soft colors, and using a mix of old and new is a great way to create cozy Easter and spring styles throughout your home.  I find most of my vintage treasures at yard sales, a stop at an antique mall, or even estate sales from time to time!

Here are a few ways I make our home cozy in the spring:

1. Light-weight throw blankets in light colors
2. Throw pillows in light fabric and color
3. A touch of cozy glow with battery-operated candles
4. Fresh scent with my favorite candle
5. Simple vignettes
6. Neutral colors
7. Natural materials
8. Low-maintenance styling
9. Add fresh plants in each room

How to Use Neutral Easter Decorations: Tip #1

Plants, plants, and more plants!

I would love to say that I have lots of advice for houseplants, tips and tricks for their best care, and guidance on what to get.  However, I do not!  Actually, I am really more of a novice at plants.  However, I know I love having them and use them in almost every room.  We do have a few places that don’t get enough natural lighting.  For those spaces, I use faux plants.

I will say, however, that over the past year, I have kept more real plants alive than ever before.  So maybe there is hope for my black thumb after all!

Are faux or real plants better?

That is a fair question.  Actually, I am a big fan of mixing fresh and faux plants as well!  In fact, this entire cabinet is styled with a mix of the two.  Good, realistic faux plants are totally acceptable in my book.  Actually, good quality faux plants that look realistic are something that I am always happy to invest in my home decor.

Here are some of my favorite faux plants to use for spring decorating:

• These are my favorite faux greenery stems.
• These small eucalyptus stems look and feel so real; they are perfect for tucking into smaller vases and laying in vignettes.
• I use these pretty faux white tulips everywhere, even mixed in with real flowers!
• Peonies are always a favorite and this look so real!
• This faux tree is my very favorite.  I have 3 of them and use them both on the floor and up on my apothecary cabinet in a big vintage basket!  You can see it here below!
• These gorgeous hydrangeas couldn’t look or feel more realistic.  They are stunning and come in several spring colors!

How do you display indoor plants?

Décor wise, I love how a plant brings life and movement to a space.  As much as possible, and for any season, I like to bring in elements found in nature.  Plants are the perfect way to do that.  They also bring in a bright and vibrant look with natural elements and share the hope of the season!

I also love that plants are relatively inexpensive.  You can get some great little starter plants for under $4 and add them to every vignette.  After doing that for a couple of years, I now have some that have grown significantly larger and they add so much to our home’s décor for Easter time.

Pro Tip: Tuck small plants, faux or fresh, into vignettes on shelves, nightstands, side tables, coffee tables, and even by the kitchen sink!  They bring instant life into a space for spring and a break from the long winter.

How to Use Neutral Easter Decorations: Tip #2

Incorporate architectural salvage

There is something about those chippy, worn pieces that make me feel like they could have been part of a garden shed long ago.  We can pretend, right??  I do love especially chippy patina to add to my spring décor.  It helps keep all of the décor from looking too new, too “store-bought”, if you will!

Architectural salvage also gives you some great opportunities for displaying spring elements.  For example, plants, bunny statues, and garden decor all take on a more elevated look when styled with vintage salvage pieces..

There is something about a bunny sitting on a chippy board or a plant tucked into a column base that makes it feel unique…even if it’s the same bunny that everyone has from the same big-box store!

Pro Tip: Invest in vintage pieces, such as architectural salvage, that you can use year-round, regardless of the season.  

It is easy and relatively inexpensive to add simple seasonal accents to transform a room for the new season.  However, you can elevate the style by having unique, vintage, curated pieces for display, character, and interest to your seasonal decor.

Architectural salvage adds a one-of-a-kind element to your décor, not to mention vintage charm and character!

How to Use Neutral Easter Decorations: Tip #3

Have fun with terra cotta pots and saucers.

Remember my love for Peter Cottontail?  There is always a touch of that garden look that I love to sprinkle into my home décor.  Terra cotta pots can be used for so many things and in so many fun ways for your neutral Easter decorations.

Actually, last year I used terra cotta pots to make edible arrangements for all of my place settings for Easter!

I love to stack them, lay them, and layer them into vignettes.  You don’t have to fill them with anything, just give them a layered look and play around with it until you get the style you want.

I really love to use the terra cotta trays in my spring décor, as well.  They make a fun base for all of those spring vignettes!

You can always make a plant look more inviting by adding it to a terra cotta pot.  In fact, the more natural patina, the better!

I always watch for these at thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets.  That’s where the best ones come from because they’ve been aging in old gardens for years!

How to Use Neutral Easter Decorations: Tip #4

How do people decorate on Easter?

Add a cute bunny, of course!  Because, really, can you even decorate for Easter without a bunny?

I have been using the same bunnies to decorate for years!  However, I do love to add a cute new one to my vintage Easter collection from year to year.  I love using neutral ones, in white or gray tones.

Once you’ve collected a variety of bunnies that you love, you’re really set.  They are timeless and you can use them for years to come.  Some of mine are actually vintage and some are great vintage-style.  You can definitely mix and match the old and new in your own Easter decor!

This concrete rabbit is a favorite vintage Easter decoration!  However, you can achieve the same look with THIS new rabbit in a vintage style!

Here some ideas to use bunnies in your neutral Easter decorations:

• Add a bunny under a glass cloche with a sprig of spring greenery and old thrifted book.
• Set a bunny in a large bowl on top of moss.
• Put a cute set of little bunnies around a plant.
• Tuck a pretty bunny into a vignette on a bookshelf.
• Add a bunny to a spring vignette on a coffee table, sofa table, or entryway.
• Use a large bunny to make a statement in the kitchen, sitting on a scale!
• Add little bunnies to your spring place settings.
• Tuck mis-matched bunnies into greenery down the middle of the table for a centerpiece.

How to Use Neutral Easter Decorations: Tip #5

Incorporate vintage vessels for Easter farmhouse decor.

There are some really great pots, planters, crates, and containers out there that have a vintage look to them.  However, you know how much I love a good vintage or antique find!  I am always building my collection of trays, baskets, pots, crates, urns, and containers that have good patina, chippy texture, old, worn wood, and features that help our home feel curated over time.

Just as with architectural salvage, vintage style containers add so much charm and character to your space.  A bright vase of spring flowers, added to a vintage vase or jar, makes my heart happy!

Plants take on so much charm when added to vintage ironstone or an old bucket.  You can use vintage crates and trays as a base for your vignette.

Pro Tip: Even if everything in the vignette is “new”, it will still take on those vintage vibes!

• This large terra cotta bowl
• This beautiful woven pedestal with a scalloped edge.
• Set of 2 vintage-inspired wooden dough bowls

I like to use vintage containers for practical solutions as well.  You’ll find old baskets and cubbies all throughout our home, organizing and storing our everyday items!

This time of year, I especially love to pull out vintage containers with white tones.  Ironstone, old urns, and painted buckets add a bright and fresh look.  At the same time, baskets contain some of the clutter while adding that old greenhouse style for spring.

I also love to use light wood tones with baskets and bread boards.  They bring warmth, but in a light and bright way.  I feel like they also add some of those garden vibes, which is perfect for spring!
