Gathering for Christmas

Holidays, Home

Tablescapes are one of my very favorite things to decorate.  Something about a clean table…like a fresh canvas for an artist.  Sometimes I like to experiment, try some out-of-the-box ideas.  Once in awhile, I take a step back to the basics.  I rarely purchase new items for my tablescapes, but rather mix and match what I have to create different looks.   At Christmas time, I find myself drawn to the classic, timeless looks.  A little elegance, a little whimsy, a little simplicity, but always Christmas greenery

For this Christmas tablescape, I started with combining faux cedar and eucalyptus garlands down the middle of the table.  I didn’t have quite enough cedar garland left, so I used gorgeous, faux cedar branches.

After building a lush and festive base on my farmhouse table, I created my place settings.  These vintage brass chargers from Rehab Vintage Market are a favorite for this time of year and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably see them in several more Christmas and New Year’s tablescapes!

I added my white, everyday dishes, gold flatware, mini cedar wreaths, and deep green napkins from the 2019 Hearth and Hand collection at Target.

These mini stockings were a sweet purchase from my friend Mara at Dreamy White Lifestyles a few years ago.  By creating an otherwise simple tablescape, I allowed the stockings to be the statement piece and focal point for each guest.  While these are no longer available, I’ll link up some similar looks for you here:

The stockings make the perfect flatware holder, while adding a touch of Christmas whimsy.
To tie in my brass chargers and flatware, I added some vintage brass candlesticks. I am always on the hunt for these at thrift stores and flea markets. I use them year round! Whether styling on a table, mantel, or vignette, I like to group them in odd numbers. This helps a space not feel too symmetrical and gives a look of being curated over time.

The finishing touch was the addition of two gold nutcrackers. These were fun after-Christmas clearance finds last year. If you don’t happen to have two gold nutcrackers on hand, you could add any kind of vintage-style brass object, such as deer or trees!

As you’re planning your Christmas menus and putting the finishing touches on your Chrismtas décor, I hope these tips give you a little inspiration to create your own tablescape art.  Whether it’s for guests or your own family, each one will feel special as you create a gathering space with love.

Blessings,

Robyn
